Dr. Abdel-Kader is leading a career combining academia and practice. He serves as “K&A Designs” -an architecture and planning consulting firm working in the MENA region as managing Principal achieving the firm’s strategic goals, design philosophy, and quality assurance.
With a PhD in architecture from the University of California at Berkeley, Dr. Abdel-Kader covers diverse areas of the academic spectrum from architecture to urban design and planning. His expertise extends to urban economics as well as economics and management of cultural heritage, which he taught as a visiting lecturer in a number of academic venues in Italy.
Dr. Abdel-Kader’s expertise varies geographically from Egypt to the MENA region and extends to the USA, with the belief in the value of partnership and exchange of information and expertise with different professional and academic institutions for mutual benefits.
Regional Cluster President, North East Africa & Levant, Schneider Electric
Walid Sheta is Schneider Electric’s Regional Cluster President of Egypt, North East Africa and Levant, a region comprising Egypt, Sudan, Libya, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, and Iraq. Sheta started out his career in 1994 by joining Schneider Electric where he worked his way up to hold several executive positions in UAE, France and Egypt.
Sheta has considerable experience under his belt in project management, production planning, sales, business development and strategic planning. In April 2010, Sheta was in charge of business development and marketing in the North East Africa region. In 2013, he was vice president of Schneider Electric Africa.
Prior to assuming his current role, Sheta was regional president of English-speaking countries in the West Africa region which comprises Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone and Liberia. Alexandria-born Sheta graduated from the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées de Toulouse – INSA Toulouse, France (the National Institute of Applied Sciences in France), with a major in industrial automated solutions.
Professor of Energy and Sustainable Development, Mechanical Engineering Department, The American University in Cairo
Dr. Haggar’s 30 years of experience in Energy and sustainable development Consulting and University teaching. Dr. Haggar has been a visiting professor at Washington State University and at the University of Idaho, U.S.A. He is presently the professor of Energy and Sustainable Development - Mechanical Engineering Department at the American University in Cairo.
Dr. Haggar has 28 Academic Honors, grants, and awards. Dr. El-Haggar received an outstanding teaching award from AUC in 1995 as well as an Excellence in research and creative endeavors awards in 2009. In 2012, Dr. El-Haggar received Provost Award in recognition of the innovations in Environmental science and engineering as well as a distinguished service award of 25 years of services at AUC. In addition, Dr. El-Haggar has 220 Scientific Publications in Environmental, Sustainable Development, and Energy Fields, 53 invited presentations, 57 technical reports, 16 books, 15 Book chapters.
Lead Regulatory Engineer- MENA Codes and Regulatory Services UL - Underwriters Laboratories
Ghaith Bakir, Lead Regulatory Engineer in UL’s Building and Life Safety Technologies division provides regulatory support in the Middle East and North Africa regions. Working out of the UL office in Dubai, Ghaith provides technical expertise in regulations, codes, standards, and product installations related issues to assist regulatory authorities, consultants, manufacturers, designers, and contractors in resolving product acceptance and code compliance issues., Represents UL at AHJ and code development meetings by participating in code discussions and conducting technical presentations on code-related technical subjects, Plan conducts and supervises code and regulatory related projects of major magnitude and scope.
Prior to joining UL Ghaith worked as a project engineer for a leading producer and supplier of fire and life safety solutions. In that role, he managed projects across the United Arab Emirates (UAE) involving the installation, testing, and maintenance of fire protection equipment and systems. He also worked for a Dubai master developer as a fire engineer, assisting in developing and implementing fire safety management system frameworks, and evaluating compliance with national and international fire safety standards and best practices.

Dr. Ezeldin is a Professor of Construction Engineering at the American University in Cairo. He is currently the Chair of the Department of Construction Engineering. Dr. Ezeldin has published 2 books, 6 chapters in books, and more than 85 referred journal papers, and papers in conference proceedings. Dr. Ezeldin has advised, co-advised, and examined more than 20 Ph.D. Dissertations and more than 55 Masters Theses.
Dr. Ezeldin holds a Bachelor degree (1982), a Master of Science (1986), a Master of Philosophy (1987), and a PhD (1989) all in Civil Engineering. He has practiced as a civil engineer, construction engineer, and project management engineer since 1982. Dr. Ezeldin is a licensed Professional Engineer in USA since 1993 and a Certified Project Manager since 2005.
The professional experience of Dr. Ezeldin has encompassed a varied range of activities, including consultation for engineering and project management, specialized training, academic teaching, and highly technical funded research. He also has served as an international expert for the World Bank, International Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and The United Nations Development Programme.
Much of Dr. Ezeldin’s 35 years of design, technical, and management experiences were gained while working with consulting firms in the USA, Europe, and the Middle East. Dr. Ezeldin has been called upon several times to deliver specialized consultation, customized training programs, and team-building activities. Dr. Ezeldin has also acted as an expert professional for international associations, governmental agencies, and legal courts.

As of May 2019, Dr. Erfan Ali is the Director of UN-Habitat Regional Office for Arab States. He possesses over 20 years of experience, and an extensive track record, in urban development, regional planning, urban crisis recovery and response, at both government and UN entities.
Dr. Ali has many years of distinguished service at the UN and UN-Habitat. Most recently, he served as the Senior Human Settlements Officer and Deputy Regional Director of UN-Habitat Regional Office for Arab States (2018-2019).
Prior to this, he led the work of UN-Habitat in Iraq as the Country Programme Manager (2013-2018), supporting response to urban challenges from both a humanitarian and a development perspective.
Before joining the UN, Dr. Ali was the Head of the Regional Planning Commission (RPC) in Syria, (2010-2013) and has been instrumental in the Institutional development of the RPC as well as setting the National Standards for Regional and Spatial Planning. From 2005-2010, Dr. Ali served as Programme Director of Municipal Administration Modernization, a programme under the Euro Mediterranean Partnership focusing on improving city management and strengthening the capacities of cities in the planning and the management of urban growth. Dr. Ali previously held notable positions including Director of Systems and Plans of the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment, Syria. He also led the work with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as Project Director of several projects.
Dr Ali was a lecturer on Project Management and Regional Planning at the INA Instiut National d’Administration and the AIU Arab International University in Damascus, in addition to undertaking several consultancy and academic assignments in Urban Development in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, Libya and France.
Dr. Ali holds a Doctoral Degree in Regional and Urban Planning from The Université de Paris est- Marne-la Vallée in France and a master’s degree in Project Management from University of Damascus, Syria.

Suha Ozkan is an architect by training. He studied in MiddleEast Technical University, (METU) Ankara, and Architectural Association School of Architecture London. He has undertaken extensive research on the theory and history of architecture, design, vernacular form, and emergency housing, and has published numerous articles and monographs in many languages. He taught architectural design and design theory at the Middle East Technical University and lectured extensively Worldwide. In METU Ankara, he became Associate Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and was later appointed Vice President of the University.
He taught at METU between 1969 and 1982 the 2009 and 2012. In 1982 he joined Aga Khan Award for Architecture and served as its Deputy and Secretary-General from 1982 to 2006. He has organised international competitions for cities including Istanbul, Doha, Cairo, and Samarkand. He also has been associated with a number of prizes as jury members such as the Cityscape (Dubai), Hassan Fathy Award (Alexandria), European Union Prize (Barcelona), and World Architecture Festival (London). He was the president of the International Union of Architects Congress between 2001 and 2005 and is an Honorary Fellow of American Institute of Architects since 2004. He holds many honorary degrees from reputable professional organisations.
He established World Architecture Community ( www.worldarchitecture.org )and has been the Founding President since 2008. Dr. Ozkan returned to teaching at METU in 2009 and remained there until he retired from the university in the summer of 2012.

Dr. Amr Ezzat Salama is a Professor of Structural Engineering in Helwin University, Egypt
Dr Amr Salama was the Counselor of The American University in Cairo. He was the focal point between the Egyptian Authorities and AUC Administration.
He received the Excellency Award in 2006 an the State Award for Science in Engineering Science in 2012.
In addition Dr. Salama is the Chairman of the Council of Housing and Building of Academy of Scientific Research and Technology.

Samar- B.A of Arts - is a development professional and passionate communicator specializing in communication skills for all levels. Samar has more than 30 year of experience in corporate communications and sustainable development. As a member of LafargeHolcim Foundation, Samar been leading efforts to raise awareness of the role that architecture, engineering, urban planning and construction have in achieving a sustainable built future.
Samar is passionate about the importance of effective communication in building effective relationships and leading & managing people. She has worked within a variety of organizations serving different sectors, industries and markets (SITA, Glaxo, Huawei, DHL, LafargeHolcim), giving her a keen commercial awareness and acute understanding of the issues faced by individuals in a variety of business cultures and environments. She is experienced in reputation management, building favorable perception about any brand from corporates to politicians and business figures.
Samar has additionally provided services on a consultancy basis which include developing leaders and managers within organizations such as Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Egyptian Ministry of Tourism, Azhar, Parliaments, Ministers among others. Samar is the founder of Communicate and Cairo Business Radio, first business radio in Egypt.
