Dr. Nihal El-Megharbel is currently the Urban Policies, Governance and Legislation Program Manager, UNHABITAT, Egypt program. Dr. El-Megharbel was the Vice Minister of Planning, Monitoring and Administrative Reform, for Monitoring and was also the Senior Assistant to the Minister of Planning, Monitoring and Administrative Reform for Economic Affairs.
During the period 2014-2016, she led a group of more than 200 experts, academicians, representatives of civil society and private sector, and government officials to develop the “Sustainable Development Strategy: Egypt Vision 2030”, considered as the long term strategy for Egypt aligning national objectives to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Dr. El-Megharbel carried out several consultancy commissioned by international organizations, among which the World Bank, the United Nations Development Programme, the International Labor Organization, the United Nations Industrial Organization, and the UNHABITAT. Dr. El-Megharbel was a lecturer at Cairo University teaching History of Economic Thought and the French University teaching Microeconomics. She earned her Ph.D. in economics from Cairo University and her Master’s Degree in the American University in Cairo.
