A grand opening with the Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry
The first edition of The Big 5 Construct Egypt was officially inaugurated by H.E. Eng. Amr Nassar, Minister of Trade and Industry on September 18. Touring the exhibition, the Minister praised The Big 5 Construct Egypt for being the perfect platform to bring the latest international best practices to Egypt’s construction sector.
The world of construction under one roof
More than 200 companies from 24 countries answered the call to take part in the first Cairo-based edition of The Big 5. The event also featured 15 country pavilions from countries such as Italy, UK, Spain and France, including 5 official government funded pavilions from Germany, Greece, Turkey, China and India.
Bringing innovation to Egypt’s construction sector
Local and international exhibiting companies brought hundreds of innovative products to Egypt’s booming USD 335 billion construction market. These were showcased across six dedicated product sectors: Plant Machinery and Vehicles (PMV), MEP Services, Building Interiors & Finishes, Building Envelope & Special Construction, Construction Tools & Building Materials, and Construction Technology & Innovation.
Over 11,300 construction industry professionals flocked the Egypt International Exhibition Centre (EIEC) to attend The Big 5 Construct Egypt’s first edition between 18 – 21 September 2018. Beyond Egypt, visitors came from as far as Algeria, Sudan, UAE, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa to take part in what is recognized already as the leading construction event in the country.
Free education for all construction professionals
The Big 5 Construct Egypt offered 44 CPD-certified and free to attend workshops presented by prominent experts across its four days. With an average participation of 120 delegates per seminar, the workshops covered a wide range of hot industry topics including BIM and Project Management, Sustainability and Technology, New Policies and Reforms, Architecture & Design, Contract Management.
Women in Construction
With the goal of changing the popular misconception of construction being a man’s job, the event launched its first Women in Construction seminar on September 18. Promoting the diverse experiences of some of Egypt’s pioneering female construction executives, including Nihal El-Megharbel, Urban policies, Legislations and Governance Program Manager at UN-HABITAT Egypt, and Dalia Sadany, Founding Chairman of Dalia Sadany Dezines, the seminar proved to be an eye opening and inspirational experience for all professionals in the industry.
Strong institutional and industry support
The launch edition of The Big 5 Construct Egypt was held under the patronage of the Ministry of Trade and Industry and supported by the Egyptian Federation for Construction and Building Contractors (EFCBC) and the African Federation for Construction Contractors Associations (AFCCA). Some of the largest industry players have partnered up with the event including the Egyptian Chamber of Building Materials, the Arab Water Council, the German Arab Chamber of Industry & Commerce, International Underwriters Laboratories, Kandil Steel, Orascom Group, Sphinx Glass, Ezzsteel, Al Sherif Group, and Al Bawani Company.
Promoting Business and boosting FDIs
The Big 5 Construct Egypt promoted long term growth opportunities in Egypt and fostered new export partnerships between local and international companies. A unique platform to connect and grow together, The Big 5 Construct Egypt is expected to play an ever-growing role in boosting FDI in Egypt.
Expert calls for 40 new cities to be built in Egypt
Speaking at The Big 5 Construct Egypt’s seminar sessions, Dr. Abdel Nasser Taha, Founder and President of FIABCI-Egypt, announced that the country will need 40 new cities nationwide in the upcoming years to accommodate the rampant population growth. According to the president of the International Federation for Real Estate’s newly established Egypt chapter, Egypt’s population will increase by a projected two-fold by 2050. For this, Egypt will present one of the biggest real estate opportunities globally.
